2017 Hyundai Elantra vs 2017 Toyota Corolla near Bowie, MD
Which Compact Sedan Will Triumph?
Being choosy about your compact sedan is something everyone deserves – choosy about power, features, and technology. At Pohanka Hyundai, we’re a huge advocate for being picky about your next vehicle, which is why we’ve decided to put together this comparison between the 2017 Hyundai Elantra and the 2017 Toyota Corolla. We’re confident that the Elantra will impress you, even against a great competitor like the Corolla. If you have any questions while reading through this comparison, don’t hesitate to dial us up at 855-995-7286 to speak with a member of our knowledgeable staff!
Let’s start at the heart of the beast – under the hood. The Elantra provides a 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder engine that will give you the pep you need on those slow mornings. Pumping out 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque, you can equip this compact sedan with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic speed SHIFTRONIC® so you can have the right level of control for your driving style. It also boasts an impressive fuel efficiency, clocking in at 29/38/33 MPG city/hwy/combined1 with the automatic transmission. And, if your heart desires, you even have two other options for the Elantra, a 1.4 or 1.6 turbocharged inline 4-cylinder! These two engines offer as much as a 32/40/35 MPG city/hwy/combined1 or 201 horsepower, respectively!
The Corolla, on the other hand, leaves something to be desired when it comes to power. The standard powerhouse, a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, only produces 132 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque, falling quite short of the Elantra. Even its upgraded engine, which is tuned to generate 140 horsepower and 126 lb.-ft. of torque, doesn’t hold a candle to the what lies underneath the Elantra’s hood. When it comes to fuel efficiency, the Corolla does a fair job, clocking in as high as 28/35/31 MPG city/hwy/combined2, but it still doesn’t match the level of efficiency that the Elantra accomplishes!

Dealership Information
Now that we’ve covered the inner-workings of these two beauties, let’s move on to the interior. You spend the majority of your time actually inside that cabin, so it should be intuitively laid out and comprehensively attentive to your needs. The Elantra knows exactly what its drivers’ want: Android AutoTM3 and Apple CarPlayTM4. No matter which brand you’re rocking, you’ll find a way to have total integration with the infotainment system, making for a safer and more connected drive. You’ll enjoy a responsive, 7-inch touchscreen, which also plays host to the rearview camera5 with dynamic guidelines for confidence while reversing.
While the Corolla also has a 7-inch touchscreen and backup camera6, none of the EntuneTM7 infotainment packages provide you with either Apple CarPlayTM4 or Android AutoTM3 – in fact, you can’t equip your Corolla with those features at all. This amounts to a much lower level of integration between you, your phone, and your vehicle, no matter how much money you dish out for the infotainment system.
If you ask us here at Pohanka Hyundai, we’d say that the decision between the 2017 Hyundai Elantra vs the 2017 Toyota Corolla near Bowie, MD, has a clear winner! Don’t just take our word for it, though. Visit us at 1770 Ritchie Station Court, Capital Beltway Exit 13, in Capitol Heights, MD, to take the 2017 Elantra for a spin. We hope to see you soon!

“ ★★★★★ You’ll Want to Read This One to the End In June, my daughter was involved in an accident caused by an uninsured driver, and her car was totaled. Understandably, we were anxious to find a replacement as quickly as possible. We considered Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Hyundai. After test-driving the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited, my daughter knew it was the vehicle she wanted. Since we live in Fairfax, we contacted and visited nearly every Hyundai dealership in Northern Virginia searching for a white Tucson Hybrid Limited with a gray interior. Unfortunately, several dealerships told us over the phone that they had the vehicle, only for us to arrive and hear that it had “just sold”—or, in some cases, learn that they had never had it at all and were simply trying to get us into the showroom. Sheehy Hyundai was the most disappointing. They assured us they had the vehicle, but after we made the drive and explained the exact color combination we wanted, they quickly dismissed us when they realized it was not on their lot. Every dealership seemed interested only in selling us something they already had in inventory. That completely changed when we arrived at Pohanka Hyundai. Rod warmly welcomed us and genuinely listened to what we were looking for: a white Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited with a gray interior. Instead of trying to convince us to settle for another vehicle, Rod and Luis Lemus immediately went to work locating the exact Tucson my daughter wanted. Within 30 minutes, they told us they had found one and could have it ready for us that evening. My daughter completed the paperwork and applied for 100% financing online. When we returned that evening, the vehicle was ready. We completed the transaction with Joann Nolta in approximately 10 minutes, and Rod was waiting out front to personally deliver the car. The entire process was professional, efficient, honest, and completely stress-free. Rod, Luis, and Joann turned what had been a frustrating search into one of the easiest car-buying experiences we have ever had. I wish buying a new vehicle were this simple at every dealership. Pohanka Hyundai truly earned this five-star review. ”
