Hyundai’s distinguished Tucson has been a success story ever since it arrived in 2004. Positioned below the Santa Fe in the automaker’s lineup, this compact crossover, which is now in its fourth generation, is a fantastic choice for budget-conscious buyers in the market for a practical vehicle that can hold its own in a variety of driving situations. The Tucson has been given a substantial refresh for model year 2025. Building on the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness design principles, the ’25 Tucson shows off redesigned front and rear bumpers, a more prominent grille flanked by updated daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, and a thoroughly revamped interior. Plus, it offers new driver-assistance features, along with a panoramic curved display that integrates a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The center console, steering wheel, and door panel accents have all been modified as well, adding to the Tucson’s newly refined aesthetic.
Trims, Powertrain, and Performance
The 2025 Hyundai Tucson is a five-passenger crossover that’s made in five trim packages: SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, XRT, and Limited. A 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine joins forces with an eight-speed automatic transmission to form the powertrain. While front-wheel drive is standard, each trim can be optioned with all-wheel drive for greater capability on diverse terrain. The ’25 Tucson also has a respectable towing capacity of up to 2,000 pounds. As far as fuel economy, the FWD version returns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while those with AWD carry out 24 city/30 highway.
Standard and Available Amenities
The SE is attractive as the entry-level trim, providing fine value with proximity keyless entry, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding center armrest and cupholders, a 4.2-inch gauge cluster, four USB ports (two of which are Type-C), push-button start, a dual-level cargo floor, and automatic LED headlights. The SEL adds wireless phone charging, Digital Key heated front seats with power adjustability for the driver, 2, a hands-free liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear AC vents, heated side mirrors, roof rails, and rear privacy glass.
The SEL Convenience livens things up with H-Tex (leatherette) upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Hyundai Pay, a 24.6-inch panoramic curved display containing a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 64-color ambient interior lighting, a sunroof, and LED taillights and side-mirror turn signals. The XRT reverts to the 4.2-inch gauge cluster and loses the SEL Convenience’s auto-dimming rearview mirror and sunroof, but it showcases a contemporarily dark-themed look with black exterior trim, black interior upholstery, unique side cladding, and trim-specific badging. The lavish Limited builds on the SEL Convenience’s features with genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats with position memory for the driver and power adjustability for the passenger, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel with transmission paddle shifters, a sophisticated fingerprint authentication system, a 12-inch head-up display (HUD), a HomeLink universal garage door opener, a panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and LED projector headlights.
Safety Through SmartSense
Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite brings some key driving aids to every Tucson trim. Its technologies consist of forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian/cyclist and junction turning detection, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, adaptive cruise control driver attention warning, safe exit warning, rear occupant alert, and automatic high beams.
The SEL Convenience and Limited also get forward attention warning, highway driving assist, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with curve management, and enhanced rear occupant alert. The Limited alone has a real-time blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view camera, Remote Smart Parking Assist, parking sensors (front, side, and rear), and reverse parking collision-avoidance assist.
Connectivity and Entertainment
For 2025, the Tucson comes with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that provides seamless connectivity through wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. The SEL Convenience and Limited are sweetened with onboard navigation and voice recognition, but while the SEL Convenience has the base sound system as the lower trims, the Limited rounds off with a more advanced Bose providing optimal sound reproduction.
