2025 Hyundai Kona Electric
The 2025 Kona Electric has the same great looks and value proposition as its gas-burning counterpart, but with the benefit of emissions-free operation. With range as high as 261 miles and potential cargo space up to 63.7 cubic feet (without passengers in the second row), it’s a budget-oriented pick that welcomes more drivers to the EV fold. This year, vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging capability, which used to be exclusive to the top-of-the-line Limited, is now standard across the board (adapters must be purchased separately). Beyond that, the N Line trim joins the lineup, making a splash with its sporty appearance featuring unique bumpers, side skirts, and special 19-inch wheels. Buyers also have a new paint choice with Ultimate Red Metallic.
Trims and Performance
The 2025 Kona Electric all-electric compact is offered as the SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited. The SE gets a 99-kW electric motor generating 133 horsepower and pairs with a 48.6 kWh battery. Its range is estimated at 200 miles, with MPGe ratings of 131 city/105 highway/118 combined. The SEL and Limited go bigger with a 150-kW motor making 201 horsepower and a 64-kWh battery; their range is set at 261 miles, with MPGe ratings of 129 city/103 highway/116 combined. The N Line also gets this upgraded powertrain but with different results: its range is estimated at 230 miles, and its efficiency ratings (MPGe) are 113 city/93 highway/103 combined.
The SE can go from 10% to 80% of charge capacity on a 240-volt Level 2 charger in approximately 5 hours; the other trims will need an additional hour to do the same. A Level 3 DC fast charger gets the job done more quickly, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in a mere 43 minutes. The regenerative braking system in every Kona Electric will add small amounts of electric power by harvesting otherwise wasted kinetic energy formed as the vehicle slows and stops and storing it in the battery.
Standard Equipment
The SE has a mix of basic and convenient features, getting fabric cloth upholstery, push-button start, proximity keyless entry, two zones of automatic climate control, heated side-view mirrors with integrated turn indicators, automatic LED headlights, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seatback, USB-C charging ports for both rows, a USB data port, a second-row center armrest with beverage holders, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SEL adds heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rooftop rails, second-row climate-control vents, LED cabin lighting, and rear privacy glass.
As mentioned above, the N Line has a different look, highlighted by exterior elements in gloss-black, specially styled bumpers, a sunroof, a steering wheel that’s unique to the trim, upholstery in a combination of leatherette and Alcantara, and N Line-design 19-inch wheels. It also gets wireless phone charging, Digital Key 2, and ambient interior lighting. The Limited takes the SEL’s features list and upgrades it with ventilated seats in the first row, plus H-Tex upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, Digital Key 2, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and ambient interior lighting.
Advanced Safety Technologies
Hyundai’s well-regarded SmartSense safety technology grouping comes standard to equip every 2025 Kona Electric with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, driver attention warning, highway driving assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection and junction turning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, speed limit assist, rear occupant alert, and safe exit warning. Buyers of the Limited will enjoy autonomous parking with the standard Remote Smart Parking Assist; this loaded trim also receives a surround-view monitor, a blind-spot view monitor, and front, side, and rear parking sensors.
Staying Connected and Entertained
The infotainment setup in every Kona Electric trim has a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and Wi-Fi hotspot access. While the two lower-priced trims have a more basic sound system, the N Line and Limited go to a premium Bose setup. Hyundai Pay technology is standard on all trims, enabling cash-free transactions to cover fees for parking and charging sessions via from the infotainment touchscreen.
