2025 Hyundai Kona
Hyundai has followed up last model year’s redesign of the subcompact Kona with a few more improvements for 2025, starting with adjustments to the trim lineup. Besides introducing the N Line S, which gets the same engine upgrade as the N Line but at a lower price point, the automaker has done away with the SEL’s feature-heavy optional Convenience Package by making its contents standard in a trim called SEL Convenience. The Kona’s value factor remains high with the continuation of America’s Best Warranty, which covers the vehicle with five years/60K miles of bumper-to-bumper protection and 10/100K miles on the powertrain. Adding to this peace-of-mind perk are five years of 24-hour roadside assistance and three years of complimentary routine scheduled maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, and multipoint inspections). Trims and Mechanical Specs
The 2025 Kona's trim hierarchy has been adjusted to include the SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, N Line S, N Line, and Limited. The powertrain for the SE, SEL, and SEL Convenience is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (output: 147 horsepower) four-cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Both N Line trims and the top-ranking Limited are upgraded to a 190-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, but Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on all trims.
With FWD, the SE returns an EPA-estimated 29 mpg around town and 34 mpg on the highway; with AWD it’s rated for 27 city/29 highway. The SEL and SEL Convenience both get 28 mpg city/ 35 mpg highway with FWD, and 26 city/29 highway with AWD. The FWD versions of the N Line S, N Line, and Limited achieve 26 city/32 highway, which dips to 24 city/29 highway with AWD.
Standard Equipment by Trim Level
The most basic Kona, the SE, gets the job done with cloth upholstery, push-button ignition, automatic headlights, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, four USB ports (two per row), proximity keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SEL adds an eight-way power-adjustable seat for the driver, two automatic temperature control zones, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, second-row air vents, black roof rails, heated exterior mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators, and 18-inch wheels. The just-added SEL Convenience ramps up the list of amenities with Digital Key, wireless device charging, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, LED interior lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The other new trim for 2025, the N Line S, gets the upgraded engine and transmission plus heated front seats, Alcantara Sport upholstery panels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, trim-specific front and rear fascia, a dual-tipped exhaust, heated exterior mirrors with built-in turn indicators, ambient LED interior lighting, wireless device charging, and 19-inch wheels. The N Line adds Digital Key, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a power-sliding sunroof. The Limited moves away from the N Line trims’ styling but gets the power-sliding sunroof in addition to heated and ventilated front seats, H-Tex (simulated leather) upholstery, full LED exterior lighting, ambient LED interior lighting, and 19-inch wheels.
Advanced Safety Technology
Hyundai’s safety-tech suite, SmartSense, is installed on every 2025 Kona. Its components are automatic high beams, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. The SEL Convenience, N Line, and Limited receive an enhanced version of forward collision-avoidance assist (junction turning detection is added) along with highway driving assist. The Limited is loaded with a surround-view monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist (automated parking), a blind-spot view monitor, parking collision-avoidance assist, and four-side parking sensors. All trims get a rearview monitor with parking guidance.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 12.3-inch touchscreen system serves as every ’25 Kona trim’s infotainment headquarters. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as are Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite radio. Navigation is added to the SEL Convenience, N Line, and Limited. The six-speaker sound system in the lower trims advances to a Bose unit with eight speakers in the N Line and Limited. Access to Bluelink connected services is included on all trims, but only the SEL Convenience, N Line, and Limited are eligible for a Wi-Fi hotspot.
