For 2024, Hyundai has treated the ELANTRA to a refresh that adds a new “shark-nose” front end with a two-piece grille design and a reworked rear end that flaunts new taillights and an updated diffuser.
Inside, the ’24 ELANTRA boasts additional USB charging ports, upgraded Digital Key (Digital Key 2) with compatibility for both Android and Apple devices, a redesigned wireless phone charger, and a fresh 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen for the SEL. Plus, the ’24 ELANTRA’s steering wheel now has haptic feedback, which pulses whenever the lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert systems are activated. All trims now come with rear-side airbags and seatbelt reminders, too.
Trim Levels, Powertrain, and Fuel Economy
Four trims are on tap with the ’24 ELANTRA: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited. Beneath the hoods of the SE, SEL, and Limited sits a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). For those who see driving as sport, the N Line ups performance with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine whisking 201 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; it gets larger front brakes and an upgraded suspension as well. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.
The ELANTRA is remarkably commuter-friendly, achieving an EPA-estimated 32 miles per gallon in city driving and 41 mpg on the highway with the SE. The SEL and Limited are rated for 31 city/40 highway with the SEL and Limited, while the N Line returns 28 city/35 highway.
Standard Amenities
The SE comes with all the usual refinements, including cloth upholstery, automatic LED headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, remote keyless entry, various USB-C charging ports, and manual climate control. The SEL will treat you to dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch gauge cluster, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and hands-free trunk release. With the optional Convenience Package, this mid-grade trim will be significantly enhanced with heated front seats, heated side-view mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, wireless phone charging, and a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding center armrest and cupholders, as well as infotainment and safety tech upgrades (see those sections for details).
Along with the more engaging powertrain, the N Line adds the items from the Convenience Package, plus a multi-link rear suspension, 12-inch front brake rotors, dual chrome exhaust tips, a gloss-black grille, heated power side-view mirrors with gloss-black caps, upholstery in a combination of H-Tex (simulated leather) and cloth, sport-style front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, Digital Key 2, 64-color customizable ambient interior lighting, trim-specific exterior accents, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and alloy sport pedals. The Limited builds on the fully optioned SE (with the Convenience Package) by adding full H-Tex upholstery, a power driver’s seat, Digital Key 2, a power tilt/slide sunroof (available for the SEL), and 64-color ambient interior lighting.
Advanced Safety Systems
In addition to its new rear-side airbags and seatbelt reminders, the ’24 ELANTRA comes with the Hyundai SmartSense safety suite. This includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision warning, speed limit assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and safe exit warning. With the Convenience Package, the SEL will also receive Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go and a more advanced forward collision system with cyclist and junction turning detection. The Limited gets those same additional safety features from the Convenience Package, along with a blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view camera, Highway Driving Assist, front and rear parking sensors, and reverse collision-avoidance assist.
Connectivity and Entertainment
The ELANTRA SE has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, HD Radio, a six-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. While smartphone integration in the SEL, N Line, and Limited requires a wired connection, you’ll be compensated with an expansive 10.25-inch touchscreen that has navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and voice recognition. The N Line and Limited are further improved with a top-grade Bose sound system with eight speakers (including center channel and a subwoofer).
