Hyundai makes few changes to the Santa Fe SUV for 2011, among them are five new colors, thepremium audio system is now standard for the Limited and solar glass. The Santa Fe is in the fifth year of the second generation, but did see refreshed styling for the 2010 model. GLS, SE and Limited comprise the model lineup.
At the heart of the Santa Fe are the two engine offerings. The 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine develops 175 horsepower and 169 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated with a six-speed manual gearbox, while a six-speed automatic is available. Also available is a 3.5-liter, V-6 that develops 276 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque, also mated to the six-speed automatic. The Santa Fe’s available all-wheel drive is electronically controlled and routes power to the wheels with the best traction. The driver can also turn on AWD lock to fix torque at a 50/50 front-to-rear split.
Among the comfort and convenience features are an Infinity Logic 7 Surround Sound AM/FM/CD-changer/MP3 audio system with 10 speakers powered by 650 watts. A touch-screen navigation system with voice command is available on all models and includes XM NavTraffic and integrates the rearview camera. Bluetooth, iPod/USB auxiliary inputs and steering wheel audio controls are standard on all models. Air conditioning is standard and includes adjustable air vents in the rear door pillars. Dual-zone climate control is available on GLS and SE and standard on the Limited, as is the Infinity audio system.
Safety features include front, side and side-curtain airbags, stability control, antilock brakes with electronic force distribution and brake assist, tire pressure monitoring and rollover sensors for the side-curtain airbags. The Santa Fe has received five-star crash and four-star rollover ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Good ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the four-cylinder, automatic transmission Santa Fe is 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The V-6 with automatic returns 20 city and 26 highway.
